Seasonal variation of the resonance parameters
In addition to the daily cycle, the resonance also exhibits an annual (seasonal) variation.
In addition to the daily cycle, the resonance also exhibits an annual (seasonal) variation. This reflects the shift of the center of gravity of global lightning activity between the northern and southern hemispheres according to the season — storm activity follows the seasonal movement of the region of strongest solar heating and the associated convection.
The seasonal redistribution of sources changes both the relative contributions of the three chimneys and the overall geography of activity, which is reflected in both the amplitude and the position of the frequency peaks. Because the observed frequency depends on the source-observer distance (see #45), when the center of gravity of activity moves closer to or farther from the station, the measured frequency parameters also change. The seasonal variation thus provides another independent window into the global dynamics of lightning Satori 2024.
