Commercial devices and 7.83 Hz generators

"Schumann generators" and PEMF devices (pulsed electromagnetic field) are sold on the market, which are meant to create a field at a frequency of 7.83 Hz in a room or near the body and promise better sleep, concentration or "harmonization". We describe them neutrally, without a recommendation to buy.

We describe them neutrally, without a recommendation to buy.

Two things must be separated. First: such a generator is not the same as the natural SR. The natural resonance is a global phenomenon excited by lightning in a cavity the size of the planet; a tabletop coil creates only a local, otherwise structured field at the same frequency number — a match in hertz does not mean a match of the phenomenon. Second: the evidence for the health effects of such devices is weak. PEMF as a clinical method has narrow, documented indications (e.g., the healing of certain fractures), but this cannot be transferred to the wellness promises of a "7.83 Hz generator". The studies tend to be small, without blind control, often funded by sellers — so the level fluctuates between 🧪 (legitimate but unconvincing research) and ⚠️ (marketing claims without support).

For the reader: if you use such a device and it subjectively helps you (e.g., to relax), it need not be harmful — but presenting it as a scientifically proven treatment, or as a "dose of the genuine Schumann resonance", is misleading.
